Better Buildings Challenge

Xenia Community Schools is participating in the Better Buildings Challenge which is a leadership initiative of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) designed to improve the lives of the American people by driving leadership in energy innovation. Through Better Buildings, DOE partners with leaders in the public and private sectors to make the nation's homes, commercial buildings and industrial plants more energy efficient by accelerating investment and sharing of successful best practices.  There are currently 310 participants with 20 K-12 entities participating.  XCS is now one of them.  Since 2011, the Better Buildings Challenge has continued to expand, with partners now representing 34,000 buildings and facilities, 4.2 billion square feet, and $5.5 billion dollars in energy efficiency investment.  Partners have helped save $1.3 billion in energy costs and avoid 10 million tons of carbon emissions.  Xenia Community Schools is proud to be a partner and has committed to a 20% reduction in energy intensity by 2026 based on a 2014 baseline, and to sharing proven approaches and strategies it puts in place to achieve savings in its school buildings and facilities.  For more information about the initiative, visit http://betterbuildingssolutioncenter.energy.gov/challenge.
